“In the past several weeks, when the weather started warming up again, the thermostat was switched to "auto" and nothing happened. You could hear buzzing inside the AC unit, yet it never came on. We called a local company , but were shocked when the diagnosis came back that our 20 year old system had a bad compressor(even though the compressor had been replaced in 08). The technician told us that when he went to put freon in it, it just leaked right out of the compressor head. We were pretty shocked when we were sent a quote of $3300 for a new compressor and about $11000 for a new system (ground source heat pump).
